Sharp Words

A saying, when mild, can turn away rage,
But when not,
Can cause it to grow, to fester, to age.
And when it grows it does not stop.
It's not just a bump;
It's a boil, a lump.
It's itchy and painful, but it will not pop.
A lump filled with vitriolic words
And for it, there is no ointment,
no medicine, no cure.
Contagious, it spreads to all you know and love.
Soon all the people you care about
are also in pain;
Hateful, vicious, spiteful, smug.
It becomes a pandemic.
It consumes the whole town, state, country, and wide world round.

All could've been prevented
by one gentle word.
Season your words with salt-
not curry or paprika.
And all you say will somehow be sweeter.
They will not cause any harm or discomfort.
No lumps or boils will ever appear,
And the ones you love won't live in fear
of talking to you or getting close;
All will be as intended, supposed.

The Dog Named Anxiety

The tears stop,
but the pain doesn't fade away.
Anxiety forever follows me
like a dog without a home.
'I'm sorry little one,
I have no room for you,' I say.
But he keeps lagging behind.
Persistent with no cause.

As the night falls,
and darkness creeps in,
so does he.
Why can't I get away from him?

I lose focus.

I end up taking him home.

Torn

I extend,
I reach,
I cower.
I want to;
I'm eager.
But I can't.
My body is torn,
this direction and that.
My mind is the compass-
deceitful,
indecisive.
Do I choose one
and forsake the other?
Or do I choose neither,
and live forever lonely;
not knowing?

Valentine's Day is a joke

Why would you honor a day dedicated to showing affection only ONE DAY out of the whole year?!

1 Corinthians 13: 4-7 says, "Love is long-suffering and kind. Love is not jealous, it does not brag, does not get puffed up, does not behave indecently, does not look for its own interests, does not become provoked. It does not keep account of the injury. It does not rejoice over unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things."

These qualities cannot be developed in one day. One day each year.
It must be worked at every single day of our lives. It would take a lifetime to even get close to being good at those qualities.

So keep working at it lovies. We'll get it right eventually.

My Current Obsessions

Cool gray leggings with buttons all the way down, a cool cardigan scarf-- who couldn't use a scarf with pockets!-- and a reversible cardigan from Society for Rational Dress. All so cool and unique. The reversible cardigan would nicely carry over into spring.

The Power of Laughter

Laughter is a force all its own. It can change a person's perception. It is contagious. And it can relieve stress when you're having a bad day. Do not resist it; embrace it.

Being a twin

My sister and I have been asked several times, "What is it like being a twin?" I never gave it much thought. Our response was always, "It's just like having a very close siblingg who you are with all the time." But I've given it thought, and it is much more than that!

I love being a twin. (I would even love giving birth to twins- just to witness and be a part of how that love and closeness grows over time.)

My twin sis is my best friend. I can see if something is bothering her just by looking at her face or body language or listening to the way she says something. With her, I always have someone to talk to. She understands me more than anyone on the planet. And I have a bond and love with her that is stronger than my love for my mom and the rest of my friends and family.

Every plan I make for the future includes her. She is always the first on any list that I make when I plan to do something.

My life would be a mess without her and I cannot imagine how I could live happily if I was not a twin.

What is a friend?

People can spend their whole lives looking for true, loyal, compatible friends. I must admit, I've spent years looking for good ones too. But after much prayer and cutting people off, I worked along with my prayers and SEARCHED for good friends.
And you know what, I found them. Some absolutely great people who have come to be like sisters and family members to me!

So what are the characteristics of a true friend?
Well I am not claiming to be the wisest person in the world, but I will tell you what I have found to be the characteristics to look for in a good friend.

1) Honesty
There is nothing worse than having a dishonest person around you. A dishonest person cannot be trusted. It doesn't even matter if they are lying to you or not. If your friend continually lies to family and other friends, even if just- what some consider- a "little white lie", what makes you think they don't tell you "little white lies" all the time without you knowing it?

2) Dependability
The relationship, as in most relationships, must have reciprosity. I have lost many friends, and grown apart from many friends, who always expect something from me, but aren't there when I need them.

3) Loyalty
This is not to say that you must be clingy and you should be the only person in your friend's life. Far from it! When I say loyalty, I think mostly of loyalty in actions and speech. A loyal friend would never gossip about you or talk about you behind your back. (If one of your friends gossips to you about other people they consider as acquaintances, what makes you think that they don't tell your business when your name comes up in conversation? Just saying. Be observant.)

If you take time to look for a good friend, believe me, you will find one.
