my current obsessions

Two very different kinds of shoes. Both cool and creative. The modern day glass slipper and beautiful YSL heels.

life's too short

I was looking through the newspaper yesterday-- i know, old school right-- and noticed that there were so many entries in the obituaries! How can there be so many deaths within a couple days. And there were like three pages worth- just for one county of my state! It is so sad how fleeting our lives can be.
"Time and unforseen occurrence befall [us] all." (Ecclesiastes 9:11)

Such a shame.
Just reminds me to never take a day for granted.
Make friends. Keep them close. Make goals. Strive to achieve them. Take care of yourselves. Be safe. Live, laugh, love.

That's what I'm going to do. Hope you all do the same.

Body Image

No one likes everything about their body. And anyone who says they do is lying.
But, being that no one is perfect, we have to make the best of things.

Yes, there are things we can fix if we feel we absolutely can't live with it. But some things we live with. Embrace the things you don't like about yourself.

Tell yourself one thing that you like about yourself everyday. One thing you are blessed to have. An ability, a skill, a talent, a favorite part of your body or face, one thing that makes you stand out as different, etc.

If you can't think of something everday, ask friends sometime what they like about you.

A boost of self-esteem goes a long way for your confidence and affects how others view you too.

(Not to mention, you don't wanna end up looking like this girl.)

Diamonds are a girls best friend?

I beg to differ with that statement. For us simplier girls who don't have money coming out of our ears (lol), diamonds and uber expensive things are not that important to us.

Yes, I love fashion and some of the finer things in life... granted. But, if I was given a choice between a diamond necklace or bracelet and a bouquet of my fave flowers (lillies) and a date with friends, I'd choose the latter.

My best friends know what I like. Art, fashion, music, shopping, movies, dancing, cafes... I'd take those any day, all day. Diamonds don't really fit in that list.

Take time to appreciate the little things. If you don't, life will never be satisfying to you.

my current obsession

passion for fashion

Some of my style icons: Rachel Bilson, Gwen Stefani, Camilla Belle, Freida Pinto. Believe me, there are alot more than that.

Pics by Chelsea Memmolo

I have a friend that I've known since freshman or sophmore year in high school. She took photography and has a natural talent for it. I am not as close with her now, but I'm still a huge fan of her work. She is the best photographer I know. Keep your eyes out for her. And check her out on Facebook or Flickr at http://flickr.com/chelseaaaaaa.

Here (above) are some of her pics that I love.
Top: "corinne"
center: "pink"
bottom: it is "untitled" on the website but i like to call it "alone with my thoughts"

sacrifice

We all must make sacrifices daily in our lives. Some people sacrifice more than others in their lives to achieve goals and do things they have never done before, etc.

Today I had to sacrifice of my time to help my family despite the very important plans I already had. It felt nice to give of my energy, time and efforts, but I got absolutely no recognition. No thank you. Nothing.

Although we all must make sacrifices in our lives on a daily basis, that does not mean that those sacrifices are not important to each and every one of us.

All I am saying is, please take into consideration the sacrifices others make in their lives, and especially the ones they make on your behalf.

Chris Brown vs. Rihanna

I know that the whole Chris Brown/Rihanna scandal happened a while ago, but the issue still remains. Both Chris Brizzy and Rihanna have been flourishing since that fight. Both have come out with several hits since that fight. But everyone seems to be turning the other cheek about the issue.

Chris Brown may have apologized. Yeah, that's all well and good. But he should've never hit her (back) in the first place. Granted, Rihanna probably started it, because she is a tall, thick girl with a bad attitude. But it doesn't matter if she stabbed him with the heel of her shoes, punched him in the face, bit him,... a man should never ever hit a woman.
I told a friend the other day- when she said he (Chris Brown) said he was sorry; he made an oops- that slapping a woman out of anger is an OOPS; hitting/beating a woman is NAH. That should never happen. Let her kill you first. Then she'll look abusive and in need of anger management and expert help. But never lift your hand to beat a woman like she is a man.

I still respect Chris Brown as an artist- he sings and dances really really well undoubtedly- but I do not respect him as a man.

That kind of behavior is unacceptable and proves he is immature because he cannot control his anger or handle issues in a calm way.

Know yourself first

Dating can be nice, and, of course, everyone wants to find their "soul mate", that person you love and are willing to spend your whole life with...
But a relationship cannot be successful if you haven't spent time being single, getting to know yourself first.

Imagine it. A girl jumps right into a relationship as soon as a guy shows interest. He asks her what she likes to do. She says, "No, you go first." Then he proceeds to talk about all his hobbies, likes and dislikes. So, she agrees with him and says, "I love all those things too!" But does she really?

If you have not come to like yourself- in and out- and find out what you're are best at, what hobbies you like, what your strenghts and weaknesses are, etc., you will forever be a follower and never get anything substantial out of your relationships. You will be like a person with no identity.

How do you expect to work out problems with someone when you do not know how YOU usually handle things?

Reasons for not rushing into relationships are another story all together.
For now, suffice to say, take time to get to know yourself before getting distracted with dating. Set goals. Work toward them. Go on vacation. Try things you've never tried before. That way, when you find the right person, and you are ready to date, you will have no regrets and your life will be fulfilling.

the blushing starfish

The ocean washes over the little starfish
and soothes its souls.
But the starfish doesn't let the ocean know
how it feels;
It remains as dark as coal.
The ocean sways and bends
and does all it can
to let the starfish see
that he cannot live without her;
like a flower without scent,
a rainbow with no color-
a fishless sea.
The starfish turns over,
ignores him,
to make it seem
like she hates him,
When her smile is really
as bright as a beam.
He kissed her cheek
in a leap of faith.
She blushes,
turns pink,
and her heart melts in place.
Their love grows stronger,
and their bond will always stay.
The starfish is still pink,
and loves him to this day.

common courtesy

This world is losing its love.
What happened to fellow-feeling and kindness and common curtesy?

A simple example: holding the door for strangers.
I am a kind person who was raised right, so I always hold doors for people. It's a habit.
But I have to hold back my disappointment and anger sometimes because my kindness is rarely reciprocated. The exception is my college. Alot of people seem to hold doors for others at my college.
But the majority of people will let a door slam in your face (even if you are two feet behind them), or will not say "thank you" when you wait to hold the door for them.

It baffles me! Were people not raised to say "thank you" when someone shows a kindness like that to them? Or do we too easily forget how we were raised and take acts of kindness for granted?

Please make it your aim to say "Thank you" the next time someone holds the door for you- or holds a cab, or offers you a tissue, or even tells you that you dropped something- because that small token of appreciation could make or break a person's day.

self-control

His eyes meet hers
and the room starts to spin.
He can't keep his balance,
and yet a calm and peace have set in.
He gives her a hug
and her walls start to drop.
She touches his arm,
and his heart nearly stops.
He caresses her neck,
and she can barely breathe;
But she gathers up the courage to say
"stop. i should leave."

Sweat Pants, Hair Tied, Chillin Wit No Makeup On

Yeah this was a nice lyric from Drake, and alot of guys say that they feel the same way. But is it true?
Dudes, don't kid yourself.

If your girl walked around without makeup on everytime u come home or go out, or just gave up and stopped putting effort into her look, would you care? Of course you would. No one wants a girl to walk around looking like a bum. That's way we have shows like What Not to Wear.

I am personally not a woman that needs makeup on (as you can see from my profile pic)... but i wear at least eye liner and mascara everyday to look good and feel good about myself.
Any woman who doesn't do this is either gorgeous beyond belief (which is rare) or just lazy. End of story.

Facts of Life

Life isn't fair or always fun...
This shouldn't stop you from enjoying it to the full.
Life is too short to get stuck in a daily routine, and years down the line wonder what went wrong and regret not taking advantage of opportunities more. So live life, have fun, try new things, make new friends, keep them close, and don't regret the choices you make- even if they are bad-- because you can learn from them.
